"In solitude we give passionate attention to our lives, to our memories, to the details around us." Virginia Woolf
Living in Greece has given me the time and space to reflect and remember which has been my main concern within these paintings.
My memories and past moments are very much concerned with colour and texture which has always been equal to image content within my work and continues to be so. The stain or trace of a texture can immediately transport and transform the surface, evoke the past, and indicate the future.
My intention is to convey veiled, just discernable fragments of visual memories.
Tantalising Intriguing Glimpses of experiences seen through hazy sunlight.
I am endeavouring to convey smells and sounds vague and unclear specific recollections, mystery and transience.
These shifting visual moments are something that everyone can relate to.
We all remember we all feel and we all dream
"Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened"
